About SWDC

High quality of life. Strong economy. Vibrant communities.

The South West Development Commission is one of nine statutory regional development authorities of the WA Government, each dedicated to shaping the future of their respective region. We coordinate and promote the economic and social development of the South West of Western Australia. We do so by partnering with government, business, industry and the community to identify and support projects that advance the region and secure ongoing prosperity.

We are a regionally-based statutory authority of the State Government which works in collaboration with stakeholders to responsibly support and advance the South West region of Western Australia. By balancing our efforts across industry and community, we are creating a region that’s first choice when it comes to deciding where to live, work and invest. Because we’re continuously planning for tomorrow, we deliver the strongest outcomes every day.

We’re working with you to shape the future of the South West region.

Our staff members work across the entire South West region of Western Australia, covering 23,970 square kilometres.

We do so by partnering with communities, government, business and industry to identify and support projects that benefit the region.

Driving economic development outcomes is a core area of focus, with growth, internationalisation and diversification central to our strategic aims.

We play an important role in maximising job creation, broadening local economies, identifying the need for infrastructure services, supporting business, and ensuring access to government services.

We take a holistic approach to ensuring the South West is a region of first choice, also working to improve quality of life, enhance liveability and maximise the unique qualities of the region.

We lead projects like Transforming Bunbury’s Waterfront and the South West Advanced Manufacturing and Technology Hub proposal. We support projects and businesses through the provision of grants or assistance via our TradeStart and Local Content programs.
